Dear Reader,
At a recent meeting on alternative medicine sponsored by Harvard Medical School, I had the pleasure of hearing researcher Dr. Tiffany Field present her amazing research on the benefits of massage--my all-time favorite way to create health. In one study, pregnant women who received two massages per week experienced a significantly decreased risk of premature labor compared to those who didn't receive massage. The massaged group had a prematurity rate of only one percent compared to an expected rate of 12 percent. Women with breast cancer who received regular massage enjoyed a dramatic rise in their natural killer cell activity, a measure of the immune system's ability to fight tumor cells.
The healing power of touch known since ancient times is now being scientifically validated. If you haven't already incorporated massage into your life, I urge you to do so.
